Qatar Minimum Wage — The GCC Standard
Qatar is the only GCC country with a legally mandated minimum wage for all private-sector workers. As of 2026, the minimum monthly wage is QAR 1,800 total, broken down as:
- Basic salary: QAR 1,000 minimum
- Accommodation allowance: QAR 500 minimum (if accommodation not provided in kind)
- Food allowance: QAR 300 minimum (if food not provided in kind)
If the employer provides accommodation and food directly, the minimum basic salary is QAR 1,000. The Ministry of Labour actively enforces this through the Wage Protection System (WPS).

Mandatory Benefits Under Qatar Labor Law
- Annual Leave: 3 weeks per year for workers with 1-5 years of service; 4 weeks for 5+ years. Pro-rated for partial years
- End of Service Gratuity: 3 weeks’ basic salary per year of service (minimum). Calculated on the last basic salary. No gratuity if the worker resigns within the first year
- Return Air Ticket: Employer must provide return ticket upon contract completion
- Health Insurance: Mandatory. Employer must provide coverage through approved providers
- Accommodation: Employer must provide suitable accommodation or QAR 500/month allowance
- Sick Leave: 2 weeks at full pay after 3 months of service, with medical certificate
- Working Hours: Maximum 48 hours/week (8 hours/day). During Ramadan: 36 hours/week
Overtime Calculation
- Regular overtime: Basic salary ÷ 30 ÷ 8 × 1.25 per hour
- Night overtime (9 PM-4 AM): Basic salary ÷ 30 ÷ 8 × 1.50 per hour
- Weekly rest day / public holiday: Basic salary ÷ 30 ÷ 8 × 1.50 per hour (plus compensatory rest day)
